The Best of 2016!

Leslie here! And so is 2017! I am so excited for a refresh and a restart. I love the holidays, but when they are over, when everything can reset, is my favorite! One of my goals for the new year is to STOP BUYING SO MANY NEW THINGS. But don’t worry! I will still be bringing you reviews! I am going to work my way through ‘sample mountain’ hidden under the cabinets…

With that said- I discovered quite a few new and awesome things in 2016! Some of these are new-new and some are just new to me. But these were products I fell in love with this year! (most of these you have seen in past favorites so I’m not going to get too deep here!)

Let’s start with skincare! I am a huge skincare junkie, and because of that I bounce around and try lots of different things. These items are ones I either discovered this year, or have been by my side the whole time.

The Hydropeptide LUMAPRO-C Skin Brightening Pigment Corrector will have a whole review coming soon- so watch out for that! I have been using it every day for the last two weeks and we are pretty much a thing now.

Favorite face cleanser this year (which bumped Sunday Riley out of the top) was the Herbalism cleanser from Lush. It provides just the right amount of exfoliation and leaves behind baby soft, moisturized skin! LOVE.

Ride or die face mask: GlamGlow Super-Mud Clearing Treatment. I ran out of the jar and currently only have a sample tube left! It is the ONLY thing that can keep my blackheads in check.

One thing I haven’t mentioned on the blog is the Milk Makeup Sunshine Oil. I got this little sample roller ball in some sample bag – and I am obsessed! I use this under my eyes before/during concealer application and blend it all in together. It keeps my not so young under eyes from looking noticeably wrinkled. Keeps it dewey and fresh!

Loved the Mario Badescu Facial Spray all year! I love it to set my makeup, and it helps to soothe and hydrate. So affordable too!!

Tarte’s Maracuja Oil slipped in there- obvs. For the past two weeks I have been using pretty much two things at night, the Lumapro-C above and Maracuja Oil, and you guys. I haven’t had a simple breakout or pimple. Not one!

The other moisturizer I have been obsessed with this year is Imperialis from Lush. My skin is perfectly hydrated and feels so smooth and bright!

SubQ Anti-Age from Hylamide and Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% from The Ordinary have been in heavy rotation- definite stand outs for the year! They just make my skin look BETTER.

Primers of the year for me: Soap & Glory One Heck of a Blot, Lush Magical Moringa, and Becca Backlight Priming Filter. Magical Moringa doubles as your moisturizer too! My favorite way to use the Becca is to mix in with my foundation for a bit of luminosity without greasiness.

My most reached for concealers for the year: Tarte Shape Tape (oh- am I not the only one??) and L’Oreal Visible Lift Blur Concealer. The Shape Tape is super intense and for use when I am doing something with a bit more coverage. And the Visible Lift seems to be the only thing that doesn’t crease and intensify wrinkles. It is the perfect pinky shade. I love it! – except the packaging.. 🙂

Discovered my HOLY GRAIL foundation this year – and I think it is being discontinued! I found a few backups, but am currently seeking a similar product to the Perricone MD No Foundation Foundation Serum. It only comes in one shade, so it is a touch dark for me, but I can mix it with almost everything I have. And it has skincare ingredients!

I’ve used the crap out of NYX Mineral “Set It & Don’t Fret It” Matte Finishing Powder. That empty ass jar of finishing powder (I need to grab a new one) has been the BEST. It is so finely milled, sets my makeup beautifully (even under eyes!) and stay matte. It even smooths out the look of pores and wrinkles. I’ve never tried Laura Mercier….but I think this could be a great dupe!

And my husband won Christmas this year with the Artis Oval 7 Elite Gold. And yes- they are everything they are hyped up to be. I love applying face makeup with it! Even powder! It comes in a “presentation box” for crying out loud!

Blush Faves!! Which now looking at together are all kind of similar.. Becca Blushed With Light Palette, Urban Decay After Glow 8-Hour Blush in Video, and The Balm Cosmetics Balm Desert Bronzer/Blush. You may be able to still find the blush palette- but if not, all of Becca’s blushes are great!

Becca Wisteria, Becca Songbird, Becca Snapdragon, Urban Decay Video, Balm Desert.

Fave palettes of the year should come as no surprise!

To finish off the eyes- some much loved mascaras and accoutrement. A couple things I haven’t talked about before: Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Color in Amethyst and Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum. The lil baby Caviar Stick came in a great value set around the holidays, a set of four. These cream eyeshadow sticks blend out so well, and stay PUT once placed. I love to use the shade Amethyst on my lower lash line for a bit of dazzle, and the purple makes my eyes pop! Here are swatches of the four that came in the set!

Aubergine blends out beautifully too for a great smoky eye. I’d love a matte taupe in this formula.

The Physicians Formula Eye Booster 2-in-1 Lash Boosting Eyeliner + Serum was hyped up by a YouTuber I watch, and I got it on a whim one day at Target. This liner not only stays put all day, but it is affordable and – what’s that? – makes your lashes grow! I was skeptical but I honestly think my lashes are looking longer and darker since I started using this. Some days I don’t want liquid liner for my look- but I still do the thinnest line so I can still get dat serum!

Stand out mascaras for the year are drugstore fave Lash Sensational from Maybelline, and the Tarte duo Tarteist Lash Paint and Best in Faux Lash Extending Fibers. It is almost absurd how long my lashes look with this duo. I don’t even care about the extra step anymore!

And last – some non makeup faves! I discovered some BEAUTIFUL new fragrances this year. Elizabeth and James Nirvana Bourbon is one of the best things I’ve ever smelled; perfect for this time of year and the packaging is gorgeous! Outremer Eau De Toilette in Vanille is the perfect vanilla. Not too sweet or musky. Love it! (Grabbed this one from Anthropologie!)

And not pictured: I don’t know how I lived my life without the Bumble and Bumble Don’t Blow It (H)Air Styler. I never blow dry my hair and this stuff ensures that it will dry without frizz!

So that’s 2016! And hey- that reminds me. I also made a playlist on Spotify wrapping up my year. If you wanna- check it out!

Thanks for a great 2016!
